Pure Stoke!

Last Saturday we held our inaugural Pure Stoke Youth Surf Camp for kids and relatives of current cancer patients.   Through the generous grant from the Sharkey Foundation and the help of the awesome folks at Shell Beach Surf Shop we were able to get 10 kids in the water for a “day off from cancer” and an intro to the healing spirit of the ocean.

Please spread the word for our next session April 22nd, application and info available online at:  http://surfingforhope.org/pure-stoke-surf-camp

A Special Thanks to Shell Beach Elementary School

Last week I got a wonderful surprise when I found I had a note of Thanks from the Shell Beach Elementary School written by the principal, Dr. Cervantez.

On the front of the card it read "All you need is Love and the beach".  How very appropriate and cool.  The inside read “Dear Surfing for Hope, The Shell Beach Elementary School staff and community recently lost a beloved a beloved Dad, Tom Adamski.  We wanted to honor him in a small way. Please except this small donation.  We know Tom would have loved us supporting your organization, May the surf continue."

This brought tears to my eyes and reminded me that Surfing for Hope is doing something very special and continues to make a difference in our community and help...

Surfing for Hope Honors

This year’s Surfing for Hope Benefit on Friday, November 6, 2015, will honor Cathy Henderson Martin who lost her life to cancer on November 12, 2014.  She was one of the most courageous and strongest individuals I have known.

Cathy found her love for the ocean and surfing when our family moved to the Pacific Palisades in 1963.  She was the classic example of the California Surfer Girl and together we surfed at Malibu, Topanga, Seco's, and good old Bay Street. in Santa Monica.   After High School, Cathy’s free spirit and love of Rock & Roll inspired her to move to England where she hung with the Rolling Stones.

In the mid 70's Cathy, her husband Jim, and her beautiful children Heather and Scott, came back to Los...

Fourth Annual Surfing for Hope Longboard Contest Weekend

Happy New Years to all of our supporters of Surfing for Hope.  We are very thankful for everyone’s efforts in 2014! Our efforts over the last three years have increased cancer awareness, raised more than $150,000 for the Hearst Cancer Resource Center, and our Surfing for Hope Longboard Contest Weekend is becoming a central coast tradition.   I am very proud of our past success and I’m sure that 2015 will be no different!

Last year was challenging for me personally because my only sibling, Cathy Martin, was fighting an amazing battle with this awful disease.   Cathy’s fight was remarkable and showed her strength and courage.  My sister lost her battle on Nov 12.  So I’m proud and saddened to say that this year’s Honoree for...

Surfing for Hope honors Tom Brown

This Years Surfing for Hope Benefit on Friday Oct. 3 will honor the father of Surfing for Life, Tom Brown.  Tom does so much in both the cancer community and the surfing world to help people going through cancer.  His wrist bands can be found in so many surf shops throughout California, the East Coast and even in Europe.  His wonderful Foundation has touched and helped many people.

Surfing for Life and Surfing for Hope have a lot of similarities. We were both started around the same time, love surfing, and have found a way to reach out to communities helping people with cancer by the positivity of surfing.  When Surfing for Hope started our benefit we originally came up with the name Surfing for Life and built our web site and...

Surfing for Hope would to extend a very special thank you to the Cliffs Resort in Shell Beach.  The Cliffs and the Marisol chose a local nonprofit each quarter to honor with their Karmic Pizza Happy Hour and we are this quarter’s recipient.  Every Thursday night from 4-7pm until the end of September, Pastry chef Hannah Ingham serves up an assortment of free gourmet pizzas with a drink purchase.

Please come out and support this good cause while enjoying the beautiful views at the Cliffs Resort.  Surfing for Hope is a great way to surf for a cause and help people in our community dealing with cancer through the positive energy of surfing.
